When I watched Jab Tak Hain Jaan, I was in a trance. We had all heard about this movie for so long, that it was almost of case of publicity being pushed down your throat! And if I as a Shah Rukh Khan fan was saying this, imagine what the others might be feeling. I still remember, Shah was supposed to be hosting this interview with Yash Chopra and it was on to be aired live on YouTube and I was thrilled. This friend of mine and I sat on a Friday night after everyone had left and projected this interview in one of our conference rooms and sat and watched Yash Chopra narrate incidents and stories from his life and career. And when he announced that jab Tak Hain Jaan was to be his last movie, we were both shocked! Only God knew, what we were watching was also to be his last interview. He passed away soon after and India grieved. If you are a Bollywood fan and aren't a Yash Chopra fan, there is something wrong with you. Jab Tak Hain Jaan took on new meaning, for me. And many of us.
The big day came and we took leave from office and watched the movie on Friday. Of course, my heart melted when I saw Shah on that bike in a uniform. I watched the movie and nothing else mattered anymore. I have never expected Bollywood to be realistic or show life as it is. I mean I have life for reality. When I walk into a theatre I want to be transported to a world of dreams. I love mainstream hindi cinema and 'realistic' cinema has never interested me. Never will. Of course a commoner with multiple day jobs could never date a millionaire. But that's why we need movies, so that these things can happen at least in our cinema! I have never judged a Shah Rukh movie (or any other) on it's level of realism. I can also absolutely believe someone leaving the person they love for a promise they made to God. Basically, you get the gist, I made jab Tak Hain Jaan absolutely believable. Absolutely. The only irritating part of the movie was Anushka Sharma and her unnecessary bubliness! I mean we could have done with a little less of that that screeching nonsense character.
Anyway, so now that you know I loved Jab Tak Hain Jaan, my next post is a story about two people who loved each other to bits, but never got together, because she had promised her God to leave him. This story is of a friend and is partly true and partly Bollywood :)
Namkeen LOVE
