Mohobbat Kya Hain, Kyun Hain, Kahan Hain?

"Mohabbat kya hai?
Mohabbat, mohabbat zindagi hain
Mohabbat kya hai kyun hai kahan hai?
Mera viswaas hain, ki bhagwaan ne saare dil ke rishte pehle se hi jod diye hai, bas unka milna hum pe choid diya hain, usne hum sabko jodiyon mein banaya hain, aur har ek ke liye koi ek jeevan saathi hain"

The first part of the scene:

I have wanted to write about these scenes for the longest time ever. In fact these are two of the many scenes from this movie I would love to write about. And i will write about it today. I will write about it because I need to see my Shah and believe in his movies and what he says in them again. I will write today because I believe in the power or love and finding the perfect one for you and that God does give you signs. I will write about it because these signs were lost on me some time back but are now all over, beckoning me to come and follow them and heed to what they are trying to so softly whisper in my ears. And frankly I will write about it simply because my boss is not in office.

Part 1:

This is from the movie Dil Toh Pagal Hai. Its about love, friendship, and dreams. i will write in details about the movie someday but for today I will keep my focus on this scene in particular. The background is a Valentines day party. Rahul and Nisha are two very close friends who work in a dance troupe (owned by Rahul). Nisha is in love with Rahul, but Rahul doesn't : 1) believe in Love and 2) deep inside is still looking for his perfect one. In this scene Nisha forces Rahul to go to the Valentines Day party with her and once they are there, he is extremely bored and wants to go back home. He doesn't find any sense in the fact that people promise their love to each other when in 6 months (or less) they will be found in someone else's arms. And he doesn't get the idea of living with that one someone for the rest of your life. Nisha on the other hand is convincing him of the fact that some of these couples do really love each other and want to genuinely spend the rest of their lives together. He rubbishes it and takes their example and says that they have known each other for years now, and know each other inside out. Would that mean that she can spend the rest of her life with him. Before Nisha can answer, he is dragged away by his friends to sing a song. And Nisha is still deep in thoughts and her mind is echoing with the question he just asked her.

This is my favorite part of the scene. There is a sense of love, longing, a promise being made and what encompasses all this is the pure affection and love on her face when she says "Yes I can, I can spend the rest of my life with you Rahul" I agree its a movie and they are actors, but the emotion on Karishma's face is so beautiful, it's almost like her eyes are asking Rahul to love her back when she answers. She is lost in a world of her own, you can see her far far away from a noisy valentines day party, with just Rahul and her, and the promise of the rest of their life together.
She loves him. So much that she is blind to the fact that he doesn't and never will. The first and most hurtful mistake of one-sided love.

Part 2:

This scene starts off at Nisha's bedroom. It's her birthday and after a kick-ass celebration and her first Tequilla shot (one too many) Rahul carries a crazy-singing-dancing Nisha to her room and drops her off. Tucks her in and after touching her forehead to make sure she is sleeping peacefully decides to leave. And he is about to turn and leave when Nisha holds his arm and asks him not to go and stay with her, for the rest of her life. She gives examples of when he would possibly leave her and asks him if he would, he very patiently listen to the drunk, very drunk Nisha, while carefully removing her jewelery, and answers her saying he will not leave her in each situation she gives him and then her last question is if he will leave her if she tells him that she loves him.

She then tells him that she loves him. A lot. Rahul smiles at all her questions, but as soon as she says the last sentence, he is stunned, he stops doing what he was and looks at her. She sleeps off in her drunken stupor but he is left alone with his thoughts. He wants to love her, because he knows she will get badly hurt if he says no. But the fact is he doesn't love her and never will. And the pain in his mind is reflected on his face. A beautiful piece of acting by Shah. You can see the pain and the dilemma in his mind. He wishes he could but knows he doesn't.

Those are two of my favorite scenes from the movie - actually from all of Shah's movies. More will follow.

Until then, let there be love and at the risk of sounding cheesy: Someone, Somewhere is Made for you.

"Jeevan saathi, kya bakwaas hain

Doosron ka toh main nahi jaanti, lekin main pehchaan loongi, woh ek ishara dikhayega aur mera dil samajh jayega.

Yeh sab kya hain?

Yahi toh mohabbat hain."

Heer and Sahiba

हीर हीर ना आँखा उडियो मैं ते साहिबा होई घोड़ी लेके आवे ले जाए घोड़ी लेके आवे ले जाए ओ मेनू , ले जाए मिर्ज़ा कोई ले जाए मिर्ज़ा कोई ले जाए मिर्ज़ा कोई -Gulzar -- Jab Tak Hain Jaan I love this song from Jab Tak Hain Jaan. While its difficult to capture the essence of the song in words, I'll try to. In Indian/Punjabi folklore, there are two very famous love stories : Sahiba - Mirza and Heer - Ranjha. In both tales, the lovers dont live happily ever after. In the second story, heer and ranjha never get together,  heer's brothers taking the couple's  love as an insult to the family's reputation kill him. In the first tale of Sahiba and Mirza, Mirza comes on a horse and takes Sahiba away, for a life together. But their journey is interrupted by Sahiba's brothers, who kill Mirza, thus ending the love story. In the song, a lady sings and says - don't call me Heer, I'm wish my destiny is like that of Sahiba's, i aeait a Mirza, who'l

Har ghadi badal rahi hai roop zindagi Chhaaon hai kabhi kabhi hai dhoop zindagi ~~Javed Akhtar, Kal ho Na Ho This is a post I will HAVE to name after my blog, simply because no other phrase can capture the true meaning of what I will try my best to express in words in this one. It all started on the Third Floor balcony of Omega, Hyderabad. And the best part is the fact that we didn't even know that we had started something new. We went through months of dilemma and denial while deep down both of us just knew. As a very dear friend puts it we had the 'connection' , but we were yet to discover it. Days, Nights, and months went by, before we realized. In fact more than 'realization', we accepted that we meant a lot more to each other. Today when people ask me for a time, date and place and what, where, how, when. I am clueless. Because it was not love at first sight, it was even more beautiful than that. A friendship that both of us treasured to th

Zindagi Migzara.

As I dimmed the lights of my room last night, Singapore's hot and humid air changed to a gush of strong cold wind. The curtains fluttered and made my ddlj cow bells ring. I turned and stared at them for a long time.  I readjusted the laptop on my bed and plonked myself against two big pillows. My eyes closed themselves. There was a silence that was neither deafening nor lonely. It was just what silence is meant to be.... silent. And my curtains moved again, moving the bells with them. The bells took me back to Shahrukh and his movies. I opened my eyes and looked at those bells for a long long time. My mom had picked them up from Switzerland for me. I thought of her and teared up. I wanted her now. I wanted her touch. It was 10pm at home in India and at this time, after dinner and closing the kitchen, my mother, takes a shower. She comes out of the bathroom, and brings with her a waft of her talcum powder and her body lotion. That fragrance can make you forget all your worries
