The Last Wave

Do not go gently into that good night, Old age should burn and rave at close of day; Rage, rage against the dying of the light. Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay, ~ Dylan Thomas Today was 3 years since he had moved to Bali. He still remembers the day he told his family about his decision to move to the island of Gods. As much as Australians loved visiting Bali for it’s surf spots and great food - and so had they been on multiple trips as a family - but moving your life there was something else. What was the need - they said. It was a 4 hour flight away - it could be reached at any point in time. What had prompted Michael to take this decision? - they asked. "I don’t think I can spend one more day wearing a suit and going to the central business district (CBD) working this bank job" he said. And followed it up with - all I want to do is teach people how to surf. It gives me immense joy to share this passion with other people - and there is somethi...

afreen, آفرین

she sat in that wicker chair, with a pot of tea in front of her and a mug next to it, both white. Like everything else around her, the walls of the villa, the clouds floating across the pristine blue sky, the tall lamp shade hanging from the ceiling, reaching all the way to the floor  - all white. Exactly like the noise inside her - silent noise bouncing off the corners of her inner being, echoing in that emptiness - and the color, white.  Deep breaths, one breath, two breaths, three, four - with five, she brings herself back in, and pushes her uneasiness out a little by little bit. the house is silent, her friends asleep in this nascent-ish time, just after dawn, the birds flit back and forth from a large tree to her right, are they bats she wonders - no too small to be bats. The dawn seemed to have awakened her and them this Bali morning, bringing them both out of stupor, they adjusting to light with enthusiasm, while she, unwilling, still unwilling to let go. Everyt...

Dooriyaan : Part 1

It wasn’t the best thing to say to other people or even for that matter for her to accept it for herself. After all Delhi no longer had the colonial-mughal romanticism associated with it, it was no longer just a city steeped in history and abound with mouth watering street eats. It was (unfortunately) more than just the butter dripping Parantha’s from paranthe waali galli or the heartfelt patriotism seeping into you as you stared at the India Gate.Visitors unfortunately no longer describe the beauty of the long stretch of Rajpath or are in awe of the domes of the Rashtrapati bhavan or the tall minarets and high arches of the Jama Masjid. Not to say that the inherent...

the things we shared.

We shared a life You and I Our dreams, fears and playlists We went from conversations that lasted whole nights To a dawn where we no longer speak. We shared a home, You and I Choose curtains, pillow covers & lampshades. We went from unpacking carton boxes with our stuff together To labelling them with separate addresses. We shared our travels You and I Selecting destinations, flights & hotels. We went from spending weeks planning together To solo vacations, for soul searching. We shared a friendship You and I Cackling laughter over nonsensical jokes & many cups of chai. We went from being best friends To you never wanting to ever talk to me again. We shared peace You and I The kind found when staring at stars or gazing at the sea. We went from feeling deep contentment, To, me : immense guilt, and you : hatred. We shared love You and I, The one we fought so hard to keep and t he one that I broke. W...

it's september already!

(villa rugolo, ravello, italy) "chehra ek phool ki tarah shaadaab hai chehra uska hai ya koi mahtaab hai chehra jaise ghazal chehra jaan-i-ghazal chehra jaise kalli chehra jaise kanwal..” ~ Afreen Afreen Lyrics by the amazing Late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan It's crazy how we say the same things every year. How fast the year has gone by, how it'll be christmas time soon and before we know it we will be welcoming another year. 2016 started off a bit iffy for me, I decided to spend the time around holidays in Singapore, which is not a bad decision, had i had all my friends in town. Unfortunately I didn't and after heroically deciding on December 29th that I am going to wear my pretty dress, put on some make up and show up at Arab Street all by myself and party to welcome 2016, I chickened out. I couldn't get myself to go. Instead i walked in the rain on December 31st on my way back home, which was refreshing. Bought myself some amazing groceries an...
